Autumn Term 2021

We are really looking forward to welcoming our new reception children this week. We have been very busy over the summer creating an exciting learning environment for the children to explore.

Our topic this term is "All About Me" and we are excited to learn all about the children and their skills and interests. Find out more about what we have planned in this terms curriculum overview below.

Our P.E. day is Tuesday, please ensure your child comes into school already in their P.E. kits.

If you have questions please don't hesitate to ask a member of staff at the end of the day.

Class 1 Curriculum Overviews

Learning conversations

Each day we write a little comment on what we have been learning so you can carry on the conversation with your child at home. Learning conversations are shared via the Seesaw learning platform at the beginning of each week. See an example below.

Read Write Inc. Phonics

Phonics lessons will be taught following the Read Write Inc. programme.

Please see the link below for useful information, videos, free electronic books and other resources available to support your child with their reading at home.

Reading books will be sent home weekly, the children will start by having a book for you to read and share with them. When they are ready they will also have a book matched to their reading stage on the Read Write Inc. programme.

Parent video: What is Read Write Inc Phonics?

A brief guide as to how we teach phonics in school.

Parent video: How to say the sounds

A short video on how you can help your child with their sounds.
Reception start by learning single Set 1 sounds, then later move onto learning special friends (2 single sounds that make 1 sound together).
Later on in the year or when they are ready, they will start to learn the Set 2 sounds (special friends made up of 2 or more single sounds).

See our Reading page for more information.
