Gross Motor
At Aldeburgh, we use Complete PE to support with the children's Gross Motor skills, and we cover:
- Team games (attack vs. defence)
- Ball skills
- Gymnastics
- Dance
- Health and Wellbeing
- Locomotion (jumping/walking)
Fine Motor
Activities to develop your child's fine motor skills:
1. Building shoulder and arm strength, which precedes wrist and finger strength:
- Sweeping with brooms
- Using chalk outside
- Painting with water on walls and floors
- Lifting and carrying large objects, e.g. making obstacle courses
2. Building wrist and finger strength:
- Beads
- Threading
- Pegs
- Playdough / dough disco
- Cutting
- Painting
- Puzzles
- Lego / duplo
- Lacing / weaving
- Stickers
- Gluing e.g. with sequins
- Using musical instruments
- Using tweezers to pick up small objects
- Mark making in sand or flour
- Bending and shaping pipe cleaners
- Printing things with paint
