Election of a new Parent Governor for Aldeburgh Primary School

Dear parent/carer,

We are looking to recruit a new Parent Governor to join our ambitious Local Governing Body (LGB). We believe it is an exciting time to join the LGB; working with the newly in post Headteacher and Governors to help drive the school forwards.  We are eager for the school to continue to improve in every aspect and deliver an exciting and engaging curriculum for the wonderful children we have here at Aldeburgh.

The most important thing is to have a keen interest in the school and be prepared to play an active part in the local governing board’s work. Full training is provided and new governors receive ongoing support. Many employers are supportive of staff serving as governors. Parent Governors normally serve a four-year term of office and bring an important and valued perspective to the work of the LGB.

The role of the Local Governing Body

The academy committee is delegated functions by the trust board and is responsible for:

  • developing a vision and strategy for the school
  • accountability and assurance – robust and effective oversight of school performance
  • engagement with pupils, staff, parents and the wider school community to understand their views and ensure strategic decision making is meaningful
  •

Who can stand for election?

To be able to volunteer, you need to be a parent, carer (or someone who has parental responsibility) for a child at the school. You do not need any specific qualifications.

To fulfil the role, you will need to:

  • attend regular meetings (around 5 each year, Thursday afternoons at 4pm)
  • visit the school occasionally
  • conduct some background reading
  • take part in training and ongoing development (which will be provided for you)

Every governing board needs a balance and diversity of knowledge, skills and experience. The governing board would welcome applications from any age group, status and ethnicity.

How to apply

If you are interested in this opportunity, please find enclosed a nomination form for election as a Parent Governor.
