Remote Learning

Remote Education Information for Parents

Introduction

At Aldeburgh Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that every pupil can continue their learning if they are unable to attend school due to exceptional circumstances or where a school closure is necessary.

We aim to provide high-quality remote education that enables pupils to remain engaged with learning, maintain contact with school and continue to make progress in line with our curriculum.

Our Approach to Remote Education

Where remote education is required, we will provide learning that is aligned to the curriculum being taught in school wherever possible.

Our approach may include:

Learning Materials

In the event of a whole-school or class closure, learning activities and resources will be provided electronically as soon as reasonably possible. We aim to send work to families by 10.00am on the first day of closure, where circumstances allow.

Learning may include:

  • English, Mathematics and wider curriculum activities.
  • Worksheets, practical tasks and project-based learning.
  • Links to online learning platforms and educational resources.
  • Reading activities and opportunities to practise key skills.

Online and Recorded Learning

For longer periods of closure, teachers may provide:

  • Recorded lessons or instructional videos.
  • Live teaching sessions where appropriate.
  • Pre-recorded explanations and demonstrations.
  • Opportunities for pupils to ask questions and receive feedback.

The format used will depend on the age of pupils, the nature of the closure and available technology.

Communication and Feedback

Staff will be available during normal school hours to respond to emails and provide support where required.

Pupils may be asked to:

  • Submit work electronically.
  • Upload photographs of completed work.
  • Return completed work to school when they next attend.

Teachers will provide feedback in a way that is appropriate to the learning activity and age of the pupils.

Accessibility

We are committed to ensuring that all pupils can access remote education.

Where required, we will:

  • Provide paper copies of learning materials.
  • Adapt resources to meet individual needs.
  • Consider alternative methods of communication and support.
  • Work with families to overcome barriers to learning where possible.

Supporting Pupils and Families

Communication

Maintaining regular communication between home and school is essential during periods of remote education. Families can contact school staff through the usual communication channels if support is needed.

Parental Support

We recognise the important role parents and carers play in supporting learning at home. We will provide clear instructions and guidance to help families support their child's education.

SEND Support

Pupils with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) will continue to receive appropriate support where possible.

Our SENDCo will work collaboratively with families and staff to:

  • Adapt learning activities.
  • Provide reasonable adjustments.
  • Signpost additional support where appropriate.
  • Ensure pupils remain engaged in learning.

Remote Education for Individual Pupils

Where a pupil is absent from school and is well enough to learn, we will consider providing remote education where this is appropriate and reasonably practicable.

The school will work with families to determine the most suitable approach, considering:

  • The reason for absence.
  • The pupil's age and needs.
  • The likely duration of the absence.
  • Any medical advice received.

Remote education is intended to support pupils in maintaining learning and should not be viewed as a long-term alternative to attending school.

Where a pupil is expected to miss 15 school days or more because of health needs, the school will work with the Local Authority and other relevant agencies to consider appropriate provision, including support through Education Otherwise Than At School (EOTAS) where applicable.

Expectations for Pupils

When learning remotely, pupils are expected to:

  • Engage with the learning provided each day.
  • Complete work to the best of their ability.
  • Submit work when requested.
  • Communicate respectfully with staff during any online learning.
  • Follow the school's online safety expectations at all times.

Expectations for Parents and Carers

We ask parents and carers to:

  • Encourage regular engagement with learning.
  • Provide a suitable space for learning where possible.
  • Support younger children in accessing activities.
  • Inform the school if their child is unable to access remote learning.
  • Contact the school if additional support is required.

Online Safety

The safety and wellbeing of our pupils remains a priority when learning remotely. Pupils should follow the school's Acceptable Use Policy and Online Safety procedures when accessing digital learning resources.

Any concerns regarding online safety should be reported to the school immediately.
